High school gets new gym floor and bleachers

High School Gets New Gym Floor & Bleachers Students and Staff at Camden County High School express that a new gym floor was way overdue, and now the wait is over. The bleachers and gym floor had been “temporarily” repaired many times in the past. This year, a new floor and bleachers were installed to create a better, more modern gymnasium. The project began the week prior to Easter break during the 2010-2011 school year. Then, by the last week of June, the floor was done. However, it did take longer than projected to complete. The athletes said they were very anxious to test out the new floor and get back to work. The original gym floor was 42-years-old with the average life span of a maple floor being 30 years. Officials said there were various damages and numerous dead spots all over the floor. The bleachers were needed even more since they had become a safety hazard. Three-sport athlete Erica Barnes is happy about the new floor. She feels that the new floor feels better to run on. She finds that without dead spots, the ball dribbles better as well. Student Colby Kravchak feels that the new floor allows him to get more bounce whenever he jumps. This helps with explosiveness as well. To keep the floor in good condition, the staff plans to do as it has always done in the past. This will consist of monitoring footwear worn in the gym, no boots, dress shoes etc. The floor will be covered for assemblies or if objects are used that can be damaging to the floor. Gym will be swept on the daily basis so grit doesn’t grind down on the finish.
