Social Networking

http://my.hsj.org/schools/newspaper/tabid/100/view/frontpage/schoolid/3736/articleid/503977/social_networking.aspx

By Macie Bellanceau

Is social networking a friend or foe? I will tell you at the end what I think networks are. But I'm going to tell you what social networking does to a lot of people. Social networking has a lot to do with the problems in schools, with the students fighting with each other. Networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etcetra, are some of the websites people use to make fun of, or cyberbully, people. Cyberbullying is when people type blogs or post comments about people that might hurt their feelings. I am writing this article to explain why people should stop cyberbullying. People who cyberbully usually bully people at school and in public. Social networking isn't just for cyberbullying. Concerts blog about where and when they are playing. Some people blog about when they get up, or when they are going to bed. A lot of people change their status, relationships, and pictures everyday. If you think about it, all these websites don't have much privacy. For example, even if you make your facebook private, people that are friends with your friends or family can look at your information on your facebook profile. And when you type your name on Google your profile for facebook pops up. What I'm really trying to say is that people can get hurt from these networks no matter how private it is. I have a facebook but I don't go on it often because of all the dangers that are on it. I think that the age should change for the networks and limit the hours that you can be on the networks because people lose their jobs for being on the networks while working. I think that these networks are both a friend and foe. It depends on the way you look at it. If you just go on the networks just to pick on people, then you shouldn't deserve a Facebook or Twitter, but if you just go on just to be you and talk about your day, then go ahead, nobody is going to stop you.
