(Staff Photo)

After weeks of decision-making and hours of planning and preparation, the Student Government Association sponsored its first winter semi-formal dance on Feb. 10. “I enjoyed winter formal, even though a lot of people didn’t go,” freshman Allison Leonard said. “I thought the idea of a school dance was kind of dull to me but as more and more people started to arrive, I had a lot of fun and would definitely go again.” The dance was held in the gym, and anyone grades nine through 12 from both FFHS and MHS were invited. Students danced from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and competed in dance contests, including the Cha-Cha slide. Winners won prizes such as beach mats, gift certificates, a digital camera, and a boom box. It took about three hours to set up, and about 100 students came. SGA sponsors and members are considering throwing a semi-formal next year, and are hoping for a bigger crowd. “I was pleasantly surprised at the turnout, and the ones that did come had a good time,” SGA co-sponsor Adam Herman said. “It would have been nice if more people showed up, but everyone still had a good time.”
