By Sohpie Haas-Goldberg

All over the world people are dieing of starvation. A website called freerice.com is trying to put an end to world hunger one grain of rice at a time. This website does not only give rice to people who can’t afford food, but it also allows students to practice their math, English, Art, chemistry, geography, and learning foreign languages. The website first started in 2007 and was created by John Breen. John’s goal was to make an educational tool for any student who either wants to become smarter or wants to help the hungry. FreeRice has donated rice to feed more than 4.3 million people. The website is a nonprofit organization run by the United Nations World Food Program. There are many game subjects that players can choose, such as multiplication tables, world capitals, grammar and foreign languages. For every question a player gets correct, ten grains of rice will be donated. The more that a person plays the more rice is donated. After a few short minutes a person might just have donated a full bowl of rice. Not only does this help feed people who do not have food, but it increases knowledge at the same time.
