Certain aspects of the 2008-09 baseball and softball seasons were inferior, but overall the teams were exceptional this year. Both teams tried hard and advanced to almost being the best in the district. The J.V. softball team had to end their season early due to girls quitting. However, the varsity team pulled through and their season was a success. Winning the first round of playoffs versus Wekiva High School, it seemed as though they would achieve a high place in the district. Their toughest competition, however, was West Orange High School to whom they lost twice and were beat with a score 1-0 in the semi-finals. West Orange stole the spot of being number one in the district while we became number two. Both J.V. and Varsity teams this year in baseball did excellent winning almost all of their games played. The Varsity team held the 2nd seat in the district and was number two in the Metro Conference. When asked about the competition, Coach Gierke believes there was none. “All teams in the entire Metro conference were great, so there was no way to compare” said Gierke. Both Coach Gierke and Coach Sibley had excellent things to say about their players this season. “These teams were outstanding this year. They played great games and worked hard.” said Coach Gierke. Although this season was great, they will have to work hard to replace the seniors that are leaving. While softball has three seniors graduating, all being starters and one pitcher, the baseball team will be losing 14 very valuable players and that will be the biggest challenge going into next year. ]]> Thu, 28 May 2009 16:05:14 GMT
