JD Students Cap Off Homecoming with Dance

By Maranda Lebrecht

The JDCHS Homecoming Dance had record-setting attendance Saturday and was deemed a “great success” by student body president Jake Barman. After a full week of activities and an exciting pep rally and football game, JD students concluded their Homecoming celebration with a dance in the commons. “There were almost 700 students in attendance, which is more than the school has ever had,” Barman said. The theme of the dance was “The Mad Tea Party,” in conjunction with the entire week’s Disney theme. Complete with a neon silverware chandelier, the dance floor was packed with high school students of all ages, each jumping in time to the music. “The dance was really fun this year and I loved how the decorations tied in with the theme,” said junior Mallory Leonard. Near the dance floor, couples and groups could be seen taking photographs in front of the background painted with mushrooms. Poses ranged from the standard line-up to pyramids, with smiles and laughter written on all faces. “We all made funny faces in our group picture,” said senior Jackie Moynihan. Back on the dance floor, deejay Joey Jonaitis cranked up the tunes as students began to loosen up and get their groove on. “The dance was really fun,” said senior Taylor Muzatko, who is a member of student government. “The music, the decorations -- it all just came together and turned out really great.” The last song, “And We Danced,” was huge. Almost every voice could be heard singing. As the lights came up, signaling the end of the show, students chanted “One more song!” It seems no one wanted the night to end.
