Teens everywhere are experimenting with expression through body art. People in the community will have their opinions; but, whether you want to go through with it is up to you. In Michigan you have to have parental consent if you are under the legal age of 18. Tattoos are for life. They are in your skin for the rest of your life. After the tat is drawn up and stenciled to your skin, the needle is then dipped in ink. At this moment, you have only an instant to decide whether you want that graffiti on your body for the rest of your life. Once the needle penetrates your skin, it becomes reality. Some people like the feeling of getting “inked,” but the pain is too much for others. Many will be satisfied with their tat as soon as it’s finished and will get what is known as “the look.” This is the smile that shows the pain was all worth it. When I asked around the school to see how teachers and students felt about teens with tattoos, I got several different responses, including these: “God gave me my color skin. I think I should keep it that way.” – Mr. Cordes “I think students should wait so they don’t regret any decisions they make when they are older.” – Mrs. Tucker “I regret both of my tattoos.”- Anonymous “One or two is okay; but, when you get a sleeve or your body done, then it’s not.” – Shelby Dean, sophomore
