By Andres Apadoca

With improved numbers, the wildcat swim team hopes to make a big splash this season. After a tough season the previous year, the wildcats will be looking for a little help from new found swimmers.
Finishing last year with only seven swimmers. The wildcats hope to come out of the blocks strong with a much improved squad of 13 girls.
“I’m exited for this season after only finishing with seven girls, now we have 13,” said sophomore swimmer Tori Cervi. “Every one is really attacking there work outs.”
On top of improved number, the wildcats also have something else that there program has not seen for a while; the wildcats now have a diving team.
The wildcats dive team consist of Bou Amaya, Martha Mayo, Amber Pachack, and are coached by Marla Lanham.
“right now its all about teaching them the basics,” said Lanham “ I don’t have anyone on the team with competitive diving experience but there all working really hard and I think in time they will continue to improve and do really well.”
With all the new things that are going on with the wildcats swim team, there is a strong form of experienced leadership in the pool with the wildcats. This leadership can be found in senior swimmer Katie Gillespie.
Gillespie has been on the swim team the last three years and, as the only senior on the team was named captain.
“There’s a good atmosphere in the pool,” said Gillespie “The girls are showing a lot of dedication, everyone has been working really hard and I think we are going to do well this year.”
Even though there are a lot of fresh faces in the pool for girls swimming coach Tim Howard, he has more girls with actual competitive swimming experience than he has ever had.
“You have to learn to swim well before you can learn to swim fast,” said Howard “ this year we haven’t had to spend a lot of time teaching them the basics, we were able to jump right into getting faster.”
Entering the season, the cats coach Tim Howard has only one goal for his team and that’s that they swim hard and swim smart.
