By Tiffany Przybyla

Seven months. Is that all we have left? I’m not sure about the rest of the graduating class, but I know that I’m not all that ready. My only thoughts all of my junior year is that this was it. All we had to do was show up and pass a couple of finals. Now that I’m here I’m realizing more and more that I’m not as prepared as I thought I was. So what do I do? I went to my counselor and I talked to her, but she can only do so much for me. I am not sure how this year is going to go. It is a proven fact that the largest amount of students dropping out occurs between their last semester of high school and their first semester of college. I am in the top 20% of my class and am further behind than some of my classmates. I have not taken my SATs, ACTs, or applied to any colleges. Who do I have to blame for this? Only myself. There is so much that needs to be done in such a small amount of time. There is all of your graduation preparation, and making sure you even get to graduate. I didn’t anticipate all the stress and worries of getting ready to finish my last year of high school, but I’m sure I’m not alone. I thought that by writing this, that if at least one person can empathize with me, I am helping. So what now? I have to register for the tests I need, and start working on my scholarships. As for anyone else who is “in my boat” there could still be a chance for you too. The first suggestion I can give is to visit your counselor. They have information to help you through. The other suggestion I have; think ahead. At least it’s only November and not May. That gives me a couple of months to pick up the pace, and get the things done that I procrastinated about.
