Rubiks Cube Competition     You have probably seen students around the halls with their fingers firmly placed on a bulky candy colored cube trying to perfect it so that all the colors align. Math teacher, Ms. Sandra Daire, cleverly harnessing this little trend, held a Rubiks cube competition on May 15.     Over 25 students crammed into Ms Daire’s room in hopes of winning the title as the first ever Rubiks Cube winner. Each player received a certificate of participation, cube, and a “math” shirt.     The winner, who clocked in at a staggering 40 seconds, was freshman Daniel Gonzalez. Second place winner was sophomore Roberto Prada-Rivera and third place winner was sophomore Adrian Foster. The winners received a medal and a $25 gift certificate. The Vox Vipera     The third volume of Vox Vipera, Varela’s literary magazine, came out in May. This year’s theme was ‘organic and artificial.’ The 72 page full color magazine represented the creative talents of writers, artists, photographers and the student body.     There were over 500 submissions, including seniors Samuel Lopez, featured writer, and Solangel Rodriguez, featured artist. The magazine was produced by the Creative Writing class sponsored by Ms. Kristina Garcia.     “Working for the literary magazine is extremely fun,” said Brian Goins, a freshman staff member. “When the magazine was done, I felt like my hard work paid off.
