By Alicia Dean

Going into this year’s basketball seasason McPherson High School’s girls basketball team was ranked number one, which left some high expectations riding on their shoulders. “The beginning of the season was a little rocky. There was a lot of pressure since we were ranked number one.” senior Kaitlin Reed said. So far this season the girls have a record of 3-2. The record might not be perfect but there was a key player who graduated last year and others who didn’t come back to play again. Leaving them with only a 12 person varsity team and then there is a thirteenth person who suites up every game from C-team. The coaches decide who has worked the hardest and then make a choice as to who to bring up, which can become a great opportunity for many underclassmen. After suffering a hard loss at Tuesday’s game at Great Bend many players have been left with a bit of dissapointment in the game. “It was a challenge, we weren’t playing as well as we have been,” Reed said. While some are remorseful of the loss others are seeing it as more of an opportunity to learn from their experience. “It’s disappointing that we lost but we know what we need to work on for future games.” senior Staci Regier said. With the season still going there are apparantly improvements to be made and players who are willing to make them in order to succeed.
