Dear Editor, I’m a student at Albert Lea High School. I am taking a small animal care class, learning about animal rights. Animal rights is the belief that animals shouldn’t be used for food, clothing, entertainment, and medical research. I strongly agree, but do others think animals have rights? I think it’s inhumane to think that animals do not have rights. They should be treated with respect and care just like a human is treated. They need attention and love just like we do. All animals have feelings no matter how small they are. So do you think they like to be medically tested on so all the symptoms go to them? Do you think they feel the pain of getting skinned alive? Or the pain of getting abused, and neglected by their owner. Those are just some of the horrible things people do to animals, which is why we need more people standing up for animal rights like PETA. This is a great organization that helps animals’ rights through boycotting meats that use horrible ways of killing the animals and going undercover to investigate places where animals are being treated poorly. We need to get more people to stand up for animals and their rights so there will be less of the puppy mills and more rescuing the animals from shelters.
