By Dalia Sabbagh

The cross country team is prepared to conquer this season. With occasional practices that start at 6 a.m., they are back in action at 2:35 to practice until 4:30 and meet again on Saturdays. “Our long days are seven miles,” said junior Alex Fecteau. An “easy” day would consist of mile repeats. The team runs laps around the track, school, or goes out of the teacher parking lot, down to Countyline Road onto 441, down 441 to Ives Dairy Road, and back to the school. “I want everyone to live up to their full potential,” said boys’ coach Terry Thompson. The team ran their second meet (3.1miles) on September 13 with new uniforms for the first time in 6 years. “It’s nice to start a new season with new uniforms,” said senior Masha Gaidouk. “It’s like a new slate.” The boys earned first place and the girls second. Fan support is also encouraging for the team. “I come to every meet,” said parent Glenda Guise. “I know the kids appreciate somebody to cheer for them.” Some joint practices are held with the girls’ soccer conditioning. “Cross country practices are tough,” said sophomore soccer player Carolina Fleisman. “The heat, the rocks, the dirt; you get shin-splints and you get sweaty… it’s not a sport for girls who are worried about breaking a nail.”
