Three Cups of Tea Benefit Concert Postponed

http://my.hsj.org/schools/newspaper/tabid/100/view/frontpage/schoolid/78/articleid/285505/three_cups_of_tea_benefit_concert_postponed.aspx

By Michelle Blanco

The organization, Three Cups of Tea, has decided to postpone its benefit concert that was originally scheduled for June 12. According to the club’s co-president, Marina Awed, the administration did not want to supervise the evening event and the janitorial staff did not want to clean up after the concert. The concert is now planned for June of next year. The organization wants it to hold it at Sony Studios instead of the school’s auditorium. Acts expected to be performing will include musicians Adrienne Pierce and Ari Ghire. The purpose of for the organization hosting a benefit concert is to raise money to improve education for children in poor countries such as Afghanistan and Pakistan in the Middle East. Their goal is to raise around $3,000 with the ticket sales and snack sales. The club will continue to fundraise money all next year in order to make the concert happen. The club started because the organization presidents were inspired by the autobiographical novel, Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. The authors wrote their own account about the lives of the children they observed in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The organization aims to raise money to assist Mortenson’s cause to build schools in the war-torn countries so that the children who reside there have the opportunity to get an education.
