Students and the Declining Economy

http://my.hsj.org/schools/newspaper/tabid/100/view/frontpage/schoolid/620/articleid/274939/students_and_the_declining_economy.aspx

By Brianne Ruddy

Some call it the start of another Great Depression and everyone knows what this economy crisis has done to the United States. It has affected most everyone of the low and middle class society, but also has set back the upper class society. Citizens are being laid off almost every day due to the decline in economy. This is an immense situation and it has recently started to be compared to the Great Depression. It is a massive scare and the nation has begun its cry for help.
This nation has become dependent on materialistic items. Of course of the debt issue that has always circulated this country, the United States is at an all time low. The countries consumption of goods is still so high and at the rate the U.S. is going, the economic scare will truly turn into the next Great Depression.
The question being asked is what this entire crisis is doing to the citizens of America. What have they had to deal with and what have they had to cut back on? The schools around the U.S. have had to make some major changes. Here in Clark County School District there have been many layoffs and limited supplies within the schools. There will be an increased amount of class sizes, limited amount of books for students, and fewer amounts of teachers.
“I am really worried mostly relating to school about this whole situation. The increase in class size will affect everyone and the cut back on teachers. They also want us to do more things like give tests, more homework and such with much less given,” said Mrs. Hiller, an English teacher.
This major setback has definitely affected adults and parents with jobs but what does it do to kids and students? It has a definite impact on the daily lives of America’s youth.
“This hard time has influenced my entire family to save and cut back and there is nothing wrong with it and I think that every family should be doing the same,” said Kaila Brooks, sophomore.
So maybe this whole dilemma in time will eventually turn into something that we can all help each other with and through these hard times.
