By Lisa Valdez

The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima

The Warrior Heir is an excellent book. It is interesting and fun to read. The book, published in 2006, is a thrill due to action-packed scenes between the characters. If you’re into books that are about wizards and warriors this is a book for you.
Cinda Williams Chima is the writer of this book. She has also written the sequels to this book, The Wizard Heir and The Dragon Heir. The Wizard Heir is a sequel to The Warrior Heir. The Dragon Heir is the sequel to The Wizard Heir.
The Warrior Heir is about a teenage boy named Jackson Swift. When he was born he was supposed to be a wizard but he did not have a Weirstone. If an heir does not have a stone they would die which meant Jack was dying.
His aunt Linda, enchanter, asked Jessamine Longbranch, wizard, if she could implant a wizard stone in Jack. Dr. Longbranch agreed, but for her own benefit she put a warrior stone.
A month post-op she tried to kidnap Jack but Linda caught her. Linda convinced Dr. Longbranch to leave Jack with his mother, Becka Downey an Anaweir. Dr. Longbranch prescribed weirbrane, suppresses powers of the weir guilds, and told Jack’s mom that it was medicine for his heart surgery.
One day, when he was sixteen, he forgot to take his “medicine”. When he was at school he remembered. He tried to call home but nobody was there. After school, during soccer tryouts he almost killed a bully that was picking on him, named Garrett Lobeck. On the soccer field Lobeck tried to tackle Jack, but without Jack realizing he sent Lobeck flying to the net.
The next day his aunt Linda arrived and she told Jack that they were going to do some genealogical research. She told Jack that he could take his best friends Fitch and Will, Anaweirs. The next day she doesn’t want Jack to take them. Later in the day Jack sees why and regrets taking them because a wizard tried to kill them. Once they were in the hotel Jack finds out that he is one of the last warriors.
Once they got what Linda wanted to dig up they left back to Trinity. Linda told Jack the truth about everything. Jack finds out that almost his whole neighborhood is an heir. The next day at school he finds out he made the varsity soccer team. During soccer practice he sees Leander Hasting, a wizard and his warrior trainer. After, a couple days of warrior training two guys, Wizards and Traders, tried to take Jack. They wanted to steal Jack to sell in the Trade to one of the houses. Hastings saved Jack and killed the Traders.
Once Jack became an amazing warrior Hastings thought it would be a good idea to play Jack in The Game. When they were signing up for The Game, Dr. Longbranch tried to stop them and tried to get Jack to play for her but he didn’t. Jack realized that he was going to have to play Ellen Stephenson, the girl he likes and a warrior. During one of the rounds Jack was already hurt but instead of Ellen killing him she helped him up and walked him back to the field. They told the Master of Games that they called a truce. The Game Master was angry and told them that that was not allowed. Ghost warriors come out of no where and were killing people until the Game Master agreed to change the rules. They abolished the old rules, they made all Weir equals, and they made Trinity a sanctuary.
