By Gail

Are you a Gleek? If so, your Tuesday nights got a whole lot better. The Emmy winning best comedy kicked off its third season on September 20 th , ending the 182 day hiatus since the end of season two. Unsurprisingly, season three promises to be just as hilarious and dramatic as the previous two. With new students, new relationships, and new goals, the New Directions are in for a promising new season. It’s been a concern of fans and writers alike as to what’s going to happen with our favorite show choir participants. It has been stated that the writers do not want Glee to turn into an unrealistic series where the characters are permanently suspended in high school. They have thus made a point to clarify which grades which characters are in. Much to the dismay of the fans, many of the characters are juniors and seniors, meaning that for some, this is their last hoorah on the show, while others still have a year to look forward to. Aside from establishing the ages of our current New Directions characters, the writers have already started introducing new characters to take charge after the old ones graduate. One way they did this was through the Glee Project, a show in which fans competed in a singing competition to get character slots on the show. Four contestants were picked and guaranteed 2-9 episodes. Though certainly sad that people will be leaving, fans cannot complain that writers are not finding new students to keep the show running for many seasons after our original characters have left. Let’s face it; Glee deals with some controversial issues that may make some people squirm. However controversial the issues, Glee manages to deal with them in a way that brings them to light to people. It is important not to shut things out simply because they make you uncomfortable, for however much you do not like it, the issue is very real and very present no matter where you go. Glee depicts all different people with all different world views, and unites them with one common theme: It is important to be who you are and love yourself no matter what. Glee is such a great show not only because of its comedy and music, but because it depicts characters that struggle through the same things teenagers really goes through in high school, making them realistic and relatable. Season three already promises to exemplify the theme of self acceptance with the good and bad times the New Directions will go through.
