By Brittnee Kaecker

4th grade teacher Shelley Koll smiles for the camera along with her students.

Recently, as many people already know, Shirley Swiatowy, a fourth grade teacher at Dakota Valley resigned and moved back to the Chicago area. The Dakota Valley School District found a replacement in Shelley Koll. Koll spent two years teaching fourth grade at Valley Horizon Elementary School in Yuma, Arizona. She graduated from Dakota Valley High School in 2000 and is certified in language arts, social sciences, and coaching. Koll, who grew up in the Siouxland area, is very familiar with the North Sioux City area. She is very active, as she coached cheerleading and soccer in Yuma. She has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Sioux Falls. She likes to run, read and be with her family as much as possible. Koll decided to come back to the North Sioux area to be close to her family and the opportunity she was offered was something she couldn’t resist. “It’s very exciting to know that I am working in the same district that my old teachers taught me at. The teachers at DV really helped me be the person and teacher I am today,” said Koll. “I am very pleased for the opportunity of working for Dakota Valley. I hope to motivate my students in the classroom to promote student achievement,” said Koll. The students are eager to work with Koll and she is thrilled to be able to work at the Dakota Valley Elementary School.
