By Aryn Rosenthal

On Jan. 14, the Academy fourth through eighth graders competed in a geography bee during and after school for a seven-round preliminary competition. The students will hear from the state at the end of March to see if they are picked to join 100 other students to be at the state competition. Students qualify for the state competition by receiving the top 100 scores on the written test. The students who were chosen to compete were fourth graders Sari Lowenstein and Eliana Horwitz, fifth graders Jake Gibson and Celia Cullom, sixth graders Sam Passer, Aaron Robinow, Matt Kaplan and Erin Schwartz, seventh graders Zack Glatt, Jacob White and Cory Gutovitz, eigth graders Jordan Marks, Morgan Sonnenschein, Stacy Handler and Josh Mawhirter. Last year, Jacob White scored one of the top 100 scores on the written test, and he competed in the state competition. This year’s national competition will be held in Washington D.C., on May 25 and 26.
