Electricidad is a remake of the ancient Greek play Elecktra. Yet, instead of being placed in ancient Greece, Electridad places a new twist on the story by reenacting it in a modern Hispanic neighborhood in East L.A. The story tells the tale of Eletricidad, played by Senior Joana Reyes, who grieves the loss of her father whom she is secretly in love with. Her father died by the hand of Electricidad’s mother Clemencia played by Senior Christina Cangarlu who gauged out his eyes and cut out his tongue. Her father abused Electricidad and her mother, but Electricidad still stayed loyal to him. Throughout the play, Electricidad laid next to his dead body and spoke to him, telling him how she would avenge his death by killing her mother. The play was performed very well. In the end, the roar of the audience stunned the cast members as they took their final bows. It was a well deserved ovation for the actors and actresses who performed. “When you first play a character, it is difficult to place yourself in the shoes of such a complex role,” said Sophomore Sahar Joakim who played Electicidad’s sister Ifengenia. “Yet, as the play progresses, you find just how alike you truly are. Looks truly can be deceiving. I enjoyed performing such an amazingly enticing play,” Joakim said. Electricidad is a very dramatic and interesting play that many of all races can enjoy. It entices the audience with the superb acting abilities of all its characters. All memebers of the audience were captivated by the performance. Electricidad is being performed again on the nights of March 15-16 at 7:30 p.m.
