By Brian G.

It is a great time to be a sports fan in Chicago. This fall is an exciting time when it comes to sports in Chicago. The Cubs made the playoffs for the first time since 2003, and despite a first round exit, they had a terrific season. Also, the Bears are starting a season in which they hope to match last year’s NFC Championship. The Chicago Cubs had a very busy off-season last winter in which they spent a lot of money for new players, including Alfonso Soriano. Alex N. says, “Soriano has the most pressure of any Chicago athlete.” A big change for the Cubs was made last winter when they added manager Lou Piniella. He added a spark to the Cubs that no manager before has given them. Piniella helped them earn a National League Central Division Championship, and a spot in the playoffs. “It’s been almost 100 years since their last title. Piniella will help them break that curse,” Alex commented. The Bears have been troubled early in the season with injuries and hope to rebound before it is too late. Many fans are hopeful for a promising year out of the Bears. A quarterback controversy is going to be a big distraction this season, but they are hoping to overcome it. A big win over the Packers have fans thinking Brian Griese is the man for the job. When asked who he would rather watch, Alex said, “A Bears game is much more exciting, because there is a lot more action.” The Bears and Cubs have given Chicago fans something to be excited about, and the fans have supported them in every way possible.
