Let Desert Edge Be A Safe Place To Be

By Danny Lewis

Recently there was a case where a student at Virginia Tech University caused the worst shooting in United States history. There were 33 victims including the shooter. The school was unprepared for this type of action. What can we do at Desert Edge to prevent this from happening? The warning signs are quite simple to point out. Usually if you see a change in someone’s personality there is a sign. If an individual is talking about harming themselves or others that is a warning sign that the individual is a danger. Even sleeping too much or socializing too little can be a warning sign in some cases. Please do not ignore these signs or it could be too late. We have our counselors and staff members to guide a student through a hard time. Dr. Rossi is doing his best to keep the students in our school safe. He made a great speech on his response to the Virginia Tech massacre and gave good advice to the students at Desert Edge. There is more that our school can do to prevent a violent event from occurring. Maybe the school can have an assembly to talk to the students on preventing violence from happening at Desert Edge. Think before you disrespect another person because it can cause things to go bad. Remember as a student, you have control of what goes on at your school.
