Projector Theives Unidentified

By Keely Quinn

On Dec. 8-9, Arapahoe hosted the girls basketball Warrior Invitational in which varsity, junior varsity and sophomore levels competed. This was a busy weekend at the school crowded with students, parents and other spectators; a weekend in which not every area of the school could be monitored. It was this same weekend that two Epson projectors were stolen from math classrooms S10 and S11, located in the southwest part of the building. Projectors hang from the ceiling in every classroom and are used frequently by teachers to present notes or begin their class. “I use it for half my geometry classes,” Roger Bartholomew, math teacher in room S10, said. Bartholomew said that he didn’t originally know his projector was stolen, but was confused by its absence. Carolyn Blechschmidt, a math teacher in room S11 noticed the absence of her projector. Each projector cost Arapahoe $770. Along with the cost of the projector itself, a $110 mounting bracket must be purchased so that it can be hung. According to Deputy Scott Sickafoose, Arapahoe’s student resource officer, the school doesn’t see as much crime as is assumed by the student population. When crime does occur at Arapahoe, “people know what they’re doing,” Sickafoose said. Thieves most likely know what they’re doing and how to cover their tracks to keep from getting caught. This makes it more difficult to find the perpetrators. In the search for the thief of the projectors, there has been little evidence found and no leads. The projectors have not been returned to the school, but were replaced after about a month. Even though the projectors have been replaced, police are still investigating the theft.
