By Racheal Post

Over winter break I had the most vivid dream I have ever had. In this awful dream, the world was ending. For some reason the moon had blown up and, because the moon affects the tides, ocean water was going to drown almost everyone on earth. In this dream, I stood and watched the moon break into pieces. We all knew that we had only a few days to live and everyone did what they wanted. Many people prayed, many spent time with family and friends, some tried to find a way to survive and some stole as much merchandise as they could carry . Yes, I know, it’s weird. My dreams often tend to be weird. Despite the weirdness of the dream, it really affected me. I woke up with the question, “What would I do if I knew I had only days to live?” I realized that I want to accomplish so much in my life and I can’t put it all off until I’m about to die. In fact, I can’t put it off at all. I, like so many other people “living” today, need to accomplish what I want right now (unless one of my ambitions might include something illegal of course). What would you do if you only had hours to live? Don’t wait! Pursue what you want to right now instead of waiting. Instead of putting your ambitions off until it’s too late, work towards them right now. If you want to be a writer, write for a school publication. If you want to be a politician, get involved in Young Democrats or Young Republicans. If you’ve always wanted to learn to play the guitar or the piano, start now. If you’ve always wanted to play a sport, join a school sport. It’s important to live your life how you want to live it instead of procrastinating until you feel like you have no more life left. Be who you want to be and don’t wait around and think, “It’ll happen someday.” Make it, whatever “it” is, happen now.
