And the verdict is?

By Mariah

The most anticipated assignment seniors take part of has finally arrived, the mock trial. With a month to prepare, prep, piece, and pull together, the seniors were excited. There are three different government classes, 1st, 5th, and 8th period. Each period got their own separate cases. Then each period was divided into “defense” and “prosecution”. On May 1st, all the seniors and Mr.Owolabi took a trip to the courthouse to visit Judge O’Farrell. Each case was presented as a normal trial; twelve students were assigned to be jurors; objections were made; witnesses took the stand, the whole nine yards. Every period got at least an hour an a half before Judge O’Farrell. Mr. Owolabi told me how he thought the whole opportunity was through his eyes. “I thought they performed well, and the competition in some of the classes made it realistic. Having the court room and an actual judge was a benefit. Overall it was an excellent experience.” “Mock Trial, the best part of senior Government, but at the same time incredibly nerve racking,” senior Erica Miller told me. From the sounds of it, it’s a good time.
