Join In On The Peace, Love, and Betastock

By Ryan Hicks

This past Friday Richland BETA club put on the 2 nd annual Betastock, a fundraiser for the Richland BETA club chapter, which plans to attend the national conference in Orlando, FL. The event is put on by the Chapter Advisor, Stephanie Swindell. In Orlando the club will be running Brandon Horton for national Vice President. The club will be leaving in mid June. This trip will be a costly one, so Betastock is just one of the many fundraisers the Richland BETA club does.
This year there were two acts consisting of Logan Shidler and Matt Smith opening up with acoustic for the Josh Monroe Band. Shidler and Smith performed a great opening set with covers of rock bands including Train and We the Kings. Following them was a blues/rock cover band from the Sikeston area with bluesy guitar and vocals. Monroe sang 4 sets of covers including, The Band, and other classic rock bands.
The festivities were moved inside this year, unfortunately, due to weather threats. Aside from that everyone still had a great time listening to music, eating, and playing various games. The bounce castle was set up in the gym, just like last year, to entertain the younger crowd, and keep them occupied. Michael Glisson prepared barbecued food to keep the concession stands running.
Hopefully next year will have as good or a better turn out than this year. Beta stock is a fun event for everyone, and it is for a good cause.
