There are many events scheduled for the talent show, including the percussion ensemble. At last year’s talent show, selected percussionists performed in the ensemble while using items they would not normally play on to make the drum-like sounds you would normally hear in a song. This year, the members are playing a new piece of music called Poled Over , a song that calls for brooms, drumsticks, and loud stomping. The piece is split up into two different arrangements that play off of each other. The group currently has ten members that play one of two parts. Unlike last year, not only percussionists are playing in the ensemble. Many band members that play different instruments are given the opportunity to join in and keep the beat. “I was really nervous when I was first asked to play,” Says sophomore McKenzie Hillis, “I didn’t think I had much rhythm, but it came along a lot easier than I thought it would.” Mrs. Duley plans to keep the tradition and dim the lights while the students use glow in the dark drum sticks like the year before. The performers are required to wear all black except for their neon colored sunglasses. The students are very excited for this showcase and are confident after their last couple weeks of practice.
