			<title><![CDATA[Girls lacrosse makes history]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[ <div class='ArticleAuthor'>By Kate Byrne</div><br>The girls varsity lacrosse team has had an amazing season. They started off strong, and ended up making school history. For the regular season, the Lady Bulldogs finished ninth in the county, with a record of 12-6, which is outstanding considering they are in one of the toughest leagues. The girls demonstrated an exorbitant amount of heart, determination and effort throughout the course of the season. Every player became a part of the team, showing the other teams in the county who was boss. On April 14th Sachem North came to Lindenhurst for a game. It was a close and exciting game; they were tied at the half. Lindy came back in the second half and outscored Sachem North with the final score being 11-9. Nicolle Moran (’09) and Meg Brown (’08) led the offense with three goals apiece. Kelsey Russo (’10) scored twice, while Jessica Wharry (’11), Kerrie Cahalian (’08), and Chelsea Caiazza (’09) all scored a goal. The game was exciting to watch, seeing as both teams were so well matched. Goalie Kayla Hazelton (’08) had an outstanding fifteen saves, which was helpful in the win of this game along with a solid defense. Two days later, the Bulldogs went to Longwood. They crushed their opposition easily. Nicolle Moran was the high scorer with five goals, followed by Meg Brown, who had four. Kelsey Russo scored three times, while Jessica Wharry and Chelsea Caiazza both scored two goals. Brianna LaMarca (’10) and Angela Nischco (’09) got one goal apiece. On April 24th Whitman came to Lindenhurst. Lindy dominated and ended up beating Whitman 16-7. Meg Brown scored an outstanding six goals. Kelsey Russo and Nicolle Moran each scored three times, while Jessica Wharry, Elizabeth Gruniger (’11), and Chelsea Caiazza all scored a goal. The Lady Bulldogs next went up against Half Hollow Hills East. The offense played well and worked as a unit during this game. Kelsey Russo had a career high of six goals and four assists this game. Nicolle Moran had six goals and three assists. Meg Brown had four goals and five assists. Jessica Wharry and Chelsey Caiazza each had a goal. Kayla Hazelton had five saves, and junior goalie, Nancy Ibraham had two. The girls varsity lacrosse team next played Ward Melville on their home field. The girls put up a good fight, but in the end, Ward Melville won. The defense played their heart out. Senior Captains Kerrie Cahalain and Rebecca Grumowski took charge of the defense and played very well. Meg Brown scored six goals, while Kelsey Russo and Nicolle Moran each scored three. Jess Wharry also scored once. Senior Goalie Kayla Hazelton stepped it up in the cage making fourteen great saves. Smithtown East was a rough game for the Bulldogs. The teams faced off on May 5th at Lindenhurst. It was a tough loss in the stat book. Nicolle Moran and Meg Brown scored five goals each, while Angela Nishco had three goals and Kelsey Russo had two. Junior goalie, Amanda Coyne made her debut with five saves, while Kayla Hazelton had eight. The final score was 19-15 in Smithtown East’s favor. Upset from their last loss, Lindy came out to win their next game. They were determined and focused. East Islip came to Lindenhurst on May 8th. Every girl came onto that field willing to give everything in order to beat East Islip, which Lindenhurst had never done before in the history of its girls lacrosse program. The game was very tense; Lindenhurst was down by three goals at the half. The second half they came out with some inexplicable ferocity. Lindenhurst varsity lacrosse team beat East Islip for the first 9-7 for the first time in history. Lindenhurst had their senior night against Brentwood on May 14th. Lindenhurst won easily 19-7. The defense was solid and the midfield transitions were perfect. Meg Brown, Nicolle Moran, and Kelsey Russo scored four goals each. Angela Nishco scored two goals for lindy while Jessica Wharry, Gabrielle Valela (’11), Ashley Hebel (’09), and Alexandra Donovan (’10) all scored a goal. Goalies Kayla Hazelton, Nancy Ibraham, and Amanda Coyne had two saves each. Bay Shore came to Lindenhurst for the next game on May 16th. Unfortunately, Bay Shore overpowered the Lady Bulldogs, and they lost 19-7. The next game the Bulldogs played was the first round of the playoffs. Lindy squared off against Smithtown East, who they had previously lost to during the regular season. Lindy brought their “A” game and dominated. Every player on that field worked as a team to accomplish something that they had never done before, winning a first round playoff game, and advancing to the quarter finals. Nicolle Moran had a phenomenal game, having a career high of eight goals and one assist. Kelsey Russo scored three goals, and Meg Brown scored twice as well. Kayla Hazelton had five great saves, and the final score was 13-9. Lindenhurst went to West Islip for the second round of the playoffs on May 29th. There was an incredible amount of skill and intensity on both sides of the field. Each team played very well, but West Islip won, which proved to be a sad loss. Nicolle Moran scored three goals along with Kelsey Russo who had two goals. Angela Nishco and Meg Brown each scored once. The score was 12-7 in West Islip’s favor. The girls improved so much this season, and showed that hard work and commitment pays off in the long run. After the game, graduating senior and captain, Meg Brown addressed the underclassmen and left them with this, “We made history, but now it’s up to you to make it a tradition.” ]]></description>
