By Rachel Vida

Everybody knows that the new “thing” is to go green to save the planet. Recycle; pick up your garbage. Two thirds of colleges and universities are now going green says ReGeneration.com. Going green means changing the way we live to save what we have left. People are turning off lights to save money, using carpools, and walking instead of driving. Big name companies, like Poland Spring and Dannon, are using 30% less plastic in their water bottles to reduce the amount of generated plastics. Additionally, the reduction in chemicals these companies use is helping to preserve the ozone. Other major companies have been recognized for their efforts by www.businesspundit.com, which sites the top 25 major contributors to green efforts. Starbucks was commended because it uses coffee sleeves made of recycled paper, which saves roughly 78,000 trees a year. Also recognized is Bank of America which reduced its paper use by 32% despite a 24% customer growth. They also have an internal recycling system that recycles over 30,000 tons of paper a year, saving roughly 200,000 trees. Not only does the Bank of America give back to the environment, they give back to their employees; every employee that buys a hybrid car gets $3,000 cash back for doing so. Going green should be a way of life. Is it a part of yours?
