The Eagles Nest Credit Union opened its doors today at Southwest Miami high school, making it the 3rd high school to open a credit union in Miami Dade County.
“It is a win-win situation,” said Deputy Superintendent Freddie Woodson, as he thanked students for the marketing, design and effort they’ve put into this.
“It is one of the best things the school board has done for high school students” said Chief Executive Officer Jessica Quintero.
The credit union has several benefits. For example, students become more independent which allows them to manage their own money and help build their credit.
Also, additional services include 24/7 account access, discounts on movie tickets, and free online banking and bill pay.
The credit union, located in the auditorium, is operated by students, giving them the hands on experience needed to succeed in the financial world.
A representative from the credit union assured that “teachers and students don’t have to worry about anyone seeing their account or personal information, which makes everyone feel comfortable.”
