In the midst of the transition of power in the United States, one Revere High School alumnus, having landed a position in the Obama administration, has shown that possibilities are endless.
Brian Mosteller graduated from Revere High School in 1994 and now works as Deputy Director of the Oval Office in the White House.
Mosteller is excited for not only his new position but for the new era the country has entered. He explained that his high school career at Revere helped him with his present abilities. Revere provided him with excellent teachers and a challenging curriculum.
“Mrs. Woodlawn, a typing teacher, taught me how to type. Taking that class was the best thing I ever did,” Mosteller said.
The road to Mosteller’s political success began before President Obama became known around the globe.
“I started with the Senator when he decided to run in February of 2007,” Mosteller said.
A year later, Mosteller is in a proud position in Barack Obama’s administration. Mosteller is level-headed when dealing with his position.
“It is as stressful as you let it be. I handle all of Obama’s daily activities including executing his schedule. I work from 7:30 am to 9:30 pm. The work is easier now than it was during the campaign,” Mosteller said.
While at Revere Mosteller decided he wanted to influence the country’s future.
“I always wanted to make a difference. I liked working in high pressure environments,” Mosteller said.
Lifetime friend and Revere graduate Gerrard Dehrmann knew that someday Mosteller would make a difference in the world.
“If you knew Brian, you just knew he was going to do something special,” Dehrmann said.
Dehrmann went to school with Mosteller from kindergarten all the way to being his roomate at The Ohio State University.
“Brian was a great student. At the same time he had an entrepreneurial spirit to him. He used to carry around a magic set and go to birthday parties and perform tricks,” Dehrmann said.
Dehrmann saw Mosteller’s success throughout the hallways, in the classroom, and outside of the school.
“He took post-secondary classes at Akron University. He was a very outgoing person, and you could always count on him,” Dehrmann said.
Dehrmann remains close with Mosteller and still talks to him once every couple of weeks.
Aaron Koenderman, another friend of Mosteller’s, went to Revere with him and was not surprised that Mosteller is in the position he is in today.
“He was always really interested in trying different jobs. He was not one to work a nine-to-five job. Later on, after he worked for the Clinton administration, he worked at a position for the Olympics at Salt Lake City, Athens, Sydney, and the Special Olympics,” Koenderman said.
Mosteller expressed a lot of knowledge and involvement during high school.
“Brian was in NHS as well as taking certain classes outside of school,” Koenderman said.
President Obama has given a new outlook for our country. The components of the country’s government have not only originated from Washington, D.C. or the South Side of Chicago, but also from Richfield, Ohio.
