At-a-glance

Relay for Life - Bollywood
Advertising

Whether or not you already know, the booth day for Relay for Life took place on May 7 at Choleroi High School's track field. It was a long, hot day that took place from 10:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M., though technically it was longer for us, because the teams had to arrive no later than 8:15 A.M. for attendance and to start setting up. So we were actually there for almost fourteen hours.

The first five hours from the start of the actual starting time were pretty exciting. It starting off with an opening ceremony that took place up in Choleroi's auditorium. They had a few people from other teams tell us their reasons for taking part in relay. Some of their stories were really sad and touching. As the day went on it was a little dissapointing to see the hard work we put into making all of our dozens of fruit cups go to waste, as more people were buying the dirt (a desert with pudding, oreo cookie crumbles, and gummy worms) that we were selling instead, but it was nice to see that we at least made some sales.

It was pretty cool to see all the other booths from other schools as well as our own and all of each individual booth's creativity for their country-themed displays. Our country of choice was India, and our relay team name was Bollywood Against Cancer. I bought some stuff, mostly food, from some of the other booths while I was there, and I even met up with my cousin and convinced him to buy a dirt cup while he was there.

After a while, the heat was really starting to get to some of us, and so we ended up mostly hanging out in our tent by the end of the day. The wind starting to pick up eventually, and, as nice as it would seem to have on a hot day such as that, it kept messing up and blowing around fabric we had set up for our display as well as for our source of shade, so we had to keep on pinning the fabric to the tent with the safety pins we used for our ribbons in order to keep it in place. We had to leave our tent every once in a while though, like for the Illuminati ceremony and the walk of the cancer survivors.

After nearly fourteen long hours, we were all tired, but we still had the task of taking down the tent and getting our stuff home.  Over all, it was a fun day and definately worth it.
