College admissions, GPA, and senior projects. All of these have two particular things in common. They are all being done during senior year and all add a great amount of stress to seniors. Senior project is one of the main requirements that everyone needs to graduate. GPA is the average of your high school grade and also determines what kind of colleges and scholarships you are eligible for. College admissions are time consuming and frustrating to complete. So it’s no surprise that senior year is becoming increasingly stressful and that seniors are finding less time in their day to complete less and less of their daily work load. “I’m trying to fit in time after school to complete to complete the physical product for my senior project”, said Senior Breanna Acton, “It’s very stressful because I know if I don’t finish I won’t graduate.” There doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day to get everything completed especially seens a majority of seniors at Trask have after school jobs.
Even those who don’t have an after school job and are close to completing their senior project are feeling the stress of senior year. “I’m very stressed out right now because I’m worrying about college admissions and how I’m going to pay for college, and with everything I have to do there doesn’t seem to be enough time to really look at my college choice.” explained Senior Monique Miller.
Finding time to get all your tasks accomplished can be difficult. The key to getting your work completed with time to spare is having a good task and time management plan. A time management plan can expand your time and reduce your stress about due dates. Here are some simple tips that can help get you started:
- Make a to do list every day putting your most important task at the top and completing them first.
- Find out what time you do your work the best. For example your brain may handle one subject in the mourning better then at night so complete it accordingly.
- Review the notes you take in class everyday for at least 5-10 minutes. This will help the information stick better into your mind and you wont have to study as much when the test comes.
- Use extra minutes wisely. If you have spare time after school or if your riding the bus you can use that time to get in some extra study time or reading time.
- Keep things in prospective. Make sure your goals are one you can actually obtain. Don't set unreachable goals this just adds unnecessary stress and sets you up for failure.
- Lastly don't be afraid to say no to a boss if needed. If a boss asks if you want to work overtime one night and you have a important test the next day don't be afraid to just say no so you can do some last minute preparation and get a good night’s sleep.
Having a good time management plan can limit senior stress and you'll be almost guaranteed to get most of the task on your list completed no matter how many things you might have to do. Your stress won’t be a problem if you have nothing to stress about, and you'll finally enjoy senior year.
