1.Cameron Newton: The Auburn quarterback has led the Tigers to an undefeated season and a number one ranking. The prolific dual-threat quarterback has 27 touchdowns and over 2,000 all purpose yards.
2. Andrew Luck: Thanks to this quarterback, Stanford is 6-1 for the first time in forty years. He has over 1,700 passing yards and 17 passing touchdowns through week eight.
3. Kellen Moore: Boise State’s quarterback has only lost one game as a starter in three years. Leading the Broncos to another BCS run. Moore has thrown 19 touchdowns and only one interception so far.
4. LaMichael James: This Oregon running back has led his Ducks to their first 7-0 start since 1933. James has over a 1,000 all purpose yards and is averaging over seven yards a carry.
5 Trent Richardson: Despite splitting time with last year’s Heisman winner Mark Ingram, Richardson is the one turning heads this year for the tide. So far this year he has over 600 yards and is averaging seven yards a carry.
Connor’s Top 5 Dark Horses
1. Bernard Pierce: Playing for a team that is unlikely to produce much publicity this Temple running back was a preseason All American and is not disappointing. Pierce already has eight touchdowns, and is an elite player that deserves notice.
2. Justin Blackmon: With over a 1,000 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in seven games, the Oklahoma State wide receiver is making a name for himself. Blackmon is averaging 159 receiving yards a game, and has had at least one touchdown in every game this year.
3. Randall Cobb: The Kentucky all-purpose player is lighting up the SEC this year, proving he is no hoax. Cobb has five receiving touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns, a punt return touchdown, and three passing touchdowns.
4. Darron Thomas: People second guessed Oregon’s offense when Masoli was dismissed, but this sophomore quarterback has been a pleasant surprise. Leading Oregon their first 7-0 start since 1931, Thomas has over 1,800 all-purpose yards and 17 passing touchdowns.
5. Blaine Gabbert: Almost completely unknown until his game against the former number one team, Gabbert and his Missouri Tigers are surprisingly undefeated and are led by their quarterback. With almost 1,900 passing yards already, and the team on his shoulders, he has proved they will be a force to be reckoned with.
