Bicycling, this new form of transportation created a demand for paved roads. The invention and introduction of the safety bicycle, similar in design to the model we ride today, changed public perception from viewing bicycles as a dangerous machine for reckless youth to an efficient transportation vehicle. This improvement has provided an alternate to horses and trains and is still relevant today as society searches for solutions to climate change. Further technological improvements developed for the safety bicycle eliminated the need for muscle power. The success of the automobile resulted from the experience of creating bicycle parts, many of which were adapted to these vehicles.
