From a town of Halloween, to a magical Wonderland, Tim Burton has created many whimsical worlds that managed to entrance all who see them. Known for movies such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Alice in Wonderland (2010), the critically acclaimed director Tim Burton is finally getting deserved recognition, with an exhibit dedicated to his honor at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
A far cry from the stereotypical art exhibitions, the Tim Burton Exhibit features the creepy, distorted, and just plain weird style that is known to come from Tim Burton. paintings, photographs, storyboards, costumes and sculptures (some that even move) that help carry along the gothic style through the entire exhibit.
This exhibition is a glorious celebration of all things dark in the director’s life, showing off many items from Tim Burton’s history, with many of the items in the exhibit coming from his personal archives. The exhibition even has it’s own music, composed by Tim Burton’s long time collaborator Danny Elfman. The combination of a gothic musical score and moving sculptures is enough to creep even the strongest of people out.
Tim Burton himself was born in Burbank on August 25th, 1958. He went on to study character animation at Cal Arts. He went on to direct cult classics such as Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), and Corpse Bride. He also wrote the critically acclaimed stop-motion feature The Nightmare Before Christmas.
The exhibit opened May 29 and runs until October 31, which is most likely a throwback to The Nightmare Before Christmas. As per LACMA rules, all people under the age of eighteen can get into the exhibit for free, leaving no reason why nobody should visit the exhibition.
If you feel like celebrating Halloween early, then look no further than the Tim Burton exhibit at LACMA. Might want the hurry, art doesn’t like waiting…
