A group of 36 students departed for an eight day trip in France June 22 directed by EF Tours, a company that helps teachers coordinate trips.
“If they truly love cultures, new experiences, and want to prove their independence, then they should consider taking the trip,” Tarragh Carr, French teacher, said.
All students are allowed to participate in the trip, whether they are in French Club or not, said Carr.
Anyone can choose to add an extension to the trip as well. This extension includes seven extra days spent in Nice, France. Ashlie Ward, junior, said that Nice was by far the best part of the trip and that the extension should definitely be taken.
During the trip, travelers visited famous cities and historical monuments such as Monaco, Normandy, and Versailles. The Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and Monte Carlo were also among the tour sites.
While visiting, students were made aware of the differences between the two countries.
Students that took the trip said it is beneficial to those learning the French language and culture.
“It helped me with being able to listen and hear what others were talking about,” Eastman said.
Not only can it help to improve the overall practice of the language, but it is an opportunity to meet other people. Since the program is managed through EF Tours, the trip is offered to people from all over the country. People from Texas and Iowa also joined CHS students on this year’s trip.
“We all grew super close and it was kind of sad when it ended,” said Ward.
The total cost of the trip varies per person, ranging anywhere from $2500 to $5000. The French club puts on fundraisers to help students raise money for the trip. Fundraisers include a prom dress exchange, raffles, candy grams, and a carnival party. Those interested in being a part of the next trip in 2013, will meet in room B2 on a date yet to be announced.
