This may sound like some sort of juxtaposition, donuts and Olympics? The two do not seem to match. Westside Young Life proves to skeptics that this can be done.

A youth group usually consisting of singing, games, and a few words of Christian wisdom, Young Life attracts many high school students.

The Donut Olympics night is the club that everyone looks forward to the most.

As we walked into the room, the entire floor was covered in trash bags or saran wrap (I’m still not sure which one it was). There were donuts everywhere you looked! I knew that we were going to have a crazy night ahead of us.

Once everyone was in the room, the leaders separated us into three teams: Team Krispy Kreme, Team Dunkin Donuts, and Team Shipley’s. I was put into team Shipley’s and we started conversing with our team leader about the events we would participate in.

I signed up to be in the Dizzy Donut competition, not knowing that I would have to hold a donut to the ceiling and spin around eight times while looking at it, followed by the consumption of the entire donut, followed by a short run back to my team so the next person could go. My gag reflexes kicked in when I shoved that donut in my mouth just so my team could be in the lead.

The next event was to see who could eat the most of a donut with a blindfold on while the donut hung on a string in front of their mouths. It was very amusing to watch, especially since it was boy and a girl trying to finish the same donut.

The following game consisted of three people from each team trying to finish all the donut holes on a table they were assigned. They could not use their hands and could only get hold a hold of the donut hole with their mouth, the first team to finish was Team Shipley! Another win for us!

The nastiest event of them all was the cream filled donut eating contest. The students who signed up for it were taken to a back room to prep while the Young Life leaders let us in on a secret: the donuts were actually filled with Miracle Whip. HOW GROSS!!!!!!

When the guys came out and took their first bite, their reactions were priceless. They gagged and almost threw up, and the smell of vinegar from the mayonnaise spread through the room. I could feel my stomach turning from the disgust.

Donut Olympics, I honestly cannot think of another place in the entire world that was doing the same thing I was on a Monday Night.

Westside Young Life; it’s not that big of a deal… but it’s a pretty big deal.
