At-a-glance

The other day, I found myself talking to a concerned parent of an 8th grader looking at high schools, trying to decide whether to go public or private. She was worried about how large Bellaire is, but I, reflecting on my years at the school, realized that I would not trade my education there for any other. Here’s a list of reasons my education at public school—particularly Bellaire—has been worthwhile.

·      I can walk to my friends’ houses.

·      I would hope that sometimes having to “fend for myself” has prepared me for the real world.

·      I've saved thousands of dollars for college tuition.

·      There are rap battles at lunch.

·      With around 1000 kids per grade, “clique exclusivity” ultimately fails.

·      From cooking to Quidditch, there’s a club for everything.

·      There are so many brilliant people at my school. While the competition can be strenuous, it has let me reach my full academic potential.

Blogging makes me nervous, so maybe this sounds a bit forced, but in all honesty, I have no regrets about attending Bellaire!
