Fashions and trends come and go at Watertown Middle School. Some fashions and trends going on right now are feather extensions. You can see tons of kids wearing them, in and out of school.
“I think feathers are really popular and lots of girls like them,” said Emily K., a sixth-grader.
You can choose from a variety of colors, shapes, and patterns. Feathers are put in with a small piece of metal that is squeezed in with your hair. Or you can get some feathers that clip on whenever you’d like to wear them. Also feathers can curl and straighten like your own hair.
You can get feather extensions at many salons, including CoBella in Newton and Blondie’s in Waltham. Each feather extension usually costs about $10-$20.
Although popular, not everyone is a fan.
“Feather Extensions look good for some girls, but not all of them,” said Anthony C., a WMS student.
Another fashion trend at WMS are Sperry Top-Sider boat shoes. You can see many girls wearing these shoes around school,  but not so many boys.
Top-Siders became very popular for boaters for their non-slip soles when they were first sold by by Paul Sperry in 1935. These days many other people have fallen for its design and comfort.
“They’re really comfortable and have a good look,’’ said sixth-grader Christina B.
You can get Sperry shoes at many malls and department stores. Usually, Sperry’s cost from $40 to $80.
Vera Bradley is also very popular among the middle school girls. Vera Bradley is known for its soft, brightly patterned bags. You can see many girls around school with not only Vera Bradley bags, but Vera Bradley wristlets, binders, totes, folders, and lunch boxes.
“I like Vera Bradley because it's unique,’’ said Julia D., a seventh-grader. “There are so many different patterns to choose from!’’
You can get anything Vera Bradley at its stores, some of which are located in the malls in Burlington and Natick, and many other locations. The cost of Vera Bradley items start at $8.
So, if you’re going shopping, make sure you pick up a couple of these fashion trends. They’re too cute to miss!
