Things I’m Lovin’: Comical Ridiculousness, Criminal Minds, and Drag

By Annie Yang

“Hey, did you see that guy with the— you did? Awesome.” Don’t you just love the enthusiasm of students who show school spirit by dressing up in the most ridiculous costumes? It just makes my day; no sarcasm kids. Sporting fluffy tutus, gender-swapped clothing, and much more skin than most of us need to see, these comically-attired students rock out and about in the hallways, and teachers watch idly by the sidelines or even go the extra mile and participate. By the way, teachers did a splendid job on their western attire. I have to say, my favorite outfit so far had exceeded my expectations of comical ridiculousness that I just love. This male student wore a jean vest-like top with cut-off jean shorts, boots, and a cowboy hat that wrapped everything together wonderfully like a Christmas present—minus the red and white and everything of Christmas of course. Man, dress-up days. Crazy but hilarious, you gotta’ love ‘em.

I love Criminal Minds. It’s as easy and simple as that. This mysterious, criminal-investigation, detective, psychological thriller drama will blow your mind. Delving deep into the psychological issues and mentally-unstable serial killer cases of society, this perfect collection of agents solves cases that range in the extremities such as serial cases of torture, rape, and murder. My favorite character would have to be Dr. Spencer Reid, a genius man with an eidetic memory and IQ of 187. He is a large portion of the brain in the team of agents, but all of the characters are interesting and contribute to the team in a way that just makes everything work better despite their clashing personalities. Recently, season 7 of this amazing series has just premiered this past September of 2011, and already the storyline is getting heated up with action and anticipation. I won’t spoil it for you, but if this sounds like you’re kind of show, then I definitely recommend it. You can probably check it out at Hulu, and the next episode will air on an upcoming Wednesday. Check it out fo’ sho’!

Having just watched about two seasons’ worth of America’s Next Top Model episodes, Ms. Jay Alexander has piqued my interest in the drag fashion. Some describe a drag queen as a comical male who dresses up in female clothing for entertainment, but others describe the drag fashion as an expression of oneself and being something indescribable by words alone. I believe it’s a pretty wonderful way of self-expression which everyone always expresses in their clothing anyhow!

Anyhow, these are the things I’m lovin’ this past week, and I think you should be lovin’ them, too. Stay awesome, kids.
