The Boys’ Bowling Team improved from last season as they earned an 8-4 record
and reached the quarterfinals of the playoffs in the Queens II Division.
The Owls battled through three playoff games before making it to the quarter finals.
The first playoff was against Benjamin Banneker at 34th Avenue Bowl 4. The Owls took home
the victory with a 2-0 score, sending Benjamin Banneker home with a 7-7 record
and 3rd in their division.
The following week the Owls found themselves facing rivals Newtown. The Owls lost both regular season
games against Newtown
this year and last year, but the playoffs gave the team a chance to redeem
themselves.
Newtown ended
their season with a perfect record of 12-0 and first place in the Queens II
Division but couldn’t get passed the Owls in the playoffs. Kayshawn Freeman
bowled a 153 in Game A and Adam Cheveres bowled an impressive 169 in Game B as
the Owls sent undefeated Newton
home early.
“Beating the top team in our division [Newtown] as well as beating teams till
the quarterfinals stood out from our season,” said senior Omar Shaddad. “Newtown is our top rival
and beating them gave us a great amount of hope.”
The next round proved to be a major challenge for Bryant as they faced James
Madison. Last year, Madison
placed third in their division with a 7-6 record but this year the team went
10-3 and placed second in their division.
Regardless, the Owls edged a 2-1 victory over Madison as Justin Borneo bowled a remarkable
184 and Omar Shaddad contributed a 180 round in the decisive Game C.
The quarter final took place on November 22 against New Dorp at Rab Country Lane.
Unfortunately, New Dorp dominated the Owls with a 3-0 score and eventually won
the Championship against Tottenville by a score of 2-1.
New Dorp finished the season with a 10-2 record and second place in the Staten Island standings.
“Competing against a top team originating from [a] highly competitive borough,
it was difficult to keep up with the scores New Dorp threw at us with full rows
of strikes and spares,” added Shaddad.
Last year, the Owls earned a 7-5 record and placed 3rd in their division.
They lost to Tottenville in the second round of the playoffs by a score of 2-0.
