On January third, the basketball game between the Junior Varsity RHS Mustangs and Fairfield Falcons began at a slow pace because there seemed to be a problem with the scoreboard. After the problem was taken care of however, the game shot off with Fairfield’s #42 making the first two points of the night.

The stadium shook with the intensity of the game as the ball went from player to player. In the first quarter it seemed as if the Mustangs could do no wrong with continuous steals from the Fairfield players. It began with Fairfield dribbling down the court, the player passes it to another team mate but out of no where come Mustang D’ Andre Scott stealing the ball right out of the players hands.

Another great steal was from Mustang #11 who stealthily snatched the ball from Falcon #22 taking it down the court, passes it to #44 who shoots and scores.

By half time the Mustangs and Falcons are closely matched, RHS with 41 points and Fairfield High with 44.

Tension within then gym reaches a new level as the third quarter begins. The Falcons quickly take the lead with a three- pointer from #15 but the Mustangs step up their defense and try to block the Falcons from shooting any more goals. But in the end the Falcons came out victorious.

The Junior Varsity Fairfield Falcons defeated the RHS Mustangs 72 to 62.

After the game I spoke with some of the Junior Varsity RHS players and asked them a couple of questions.

“I think we did pretty good.” Said sophomore Armando Day. “I could have made more rebounds but I did make 10 points tonight so I’m happy.”

Sophomore Alex Aquino, who made 12 points in the game disagreed.

“We played soft.” Alex said shaking his head absently. “We didn’t have enough intensity when we played.”

“I didn’t get in the game as much as I wanted to but, I think I was solid on my defense.” Said sophomore Jordan Moss. “ I could have chosen better spot selection when I took my shots, but overall I think we did okay.”
