So, like most hardcore True Blood fans, I had no idea what to do with my life once Season 4 ended. Not only did I have to go to school now, I couldn’t look forward to True Blood at the end of the week. It was horribly depressing.
Something even worse is that moment after Winter Break when you realize that not only do you have to suffer for another six months in school, True Blood still isn’t on. But, there is hope--Ian and I have come up with a list to ease your withdrawal symptoms.
1. Read the Southern Vampire Mysteries. True Blood is based on this book series by author Charlaine Harris. Currently, there are eleven books published, and the 12th one, Deadlocked, is set to be released on May 1st, 2012. The series is a must-read for all True Blood fans, because it’ll give you some insight on what goes on in the show. Besides being a great read, it’s just as thrilling and sexy as True Blood itself.
2. Get yourself an HBO Go account. Chances are, if you’re a True Blood fan, you’ve got HBO (some people just buy the DVDs). If so, you can go to www.hbogo.com and make an account using your HBO service provider. You’ll be able to watch any episode of True Blood on any computer. This is good for easing your pain, because you can re-watch the first four seasons whenever, instead of waiting for On Demand to cough up some episodes, or having to buy the DVDs. You can also acquire the HBO Go app for smart phones, so you can watch HBO shows anywhere.
3. Check out some other vampire series. The British Being Human, for example, is one of my favorite vampire/supernatural shows besides True Blood. Shows like The Vampire Diaries, Blood Ties, Supernatural and the North American Being Human are some good shows to watch in the mean time. Movies like Lost Boys, Fright Night, Interview With the Vampire and the Underworld series are entertaining options.
4. Show your pride and buy some True Blood paraphernalia. Type in True Blood in Amazon.com and you’ll get a ton of hits like a Bon Temps football shirt or a Merlotte’s waitress shirt and apron, or a Fangtasia shirt. You can wear these around town to make you feel a little less depressed, plus you might attract fellow True Blood fans so you can have the perpetual Bill vs. Eric debate.
5. Watch some other shows or interviews featuring the actors. You can watch Alexander Skarsgard interviews or look at pictures of Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin together. (This is where a Tumblr account comes in handy!) In fact, Skarsgard stars in the upcoming movie Battleship, which is set to be released on May 18, 2012. Paquin made a brief appearance in Scream 4, and starred in The Romantics alongside Katie Holmes. These are a few examples of the movies True Blood stars are a part of, but if you cruise on over to www.imdb.com you can find a more extensive list.
6. Write or read a fan fiction. This is for people who are totally fanatic. If you’ve been a fan fiction writer/reader for other series, you probably know of the website www.fanfiction.net. If you honestly can’t find some way to get your True Blood fix, reading or writing a fan fiction from this website or others could really help you out. In these fan fictions, you can use the filter options to find stories about your favorite couples, whether they’re canonical or not. This means you can read stories about Sookie and Bill, Tara and Jason or maybe even Bill and Eric... whatever floats your boat. The website also allows you to post your own fan fiction. This is nice when none of the stories on there are what you want to read, so you can just make up your own plot line and enhance your writing skill along the way.
