With the season coming closer to an end, the boys’ soccer team has proven to be a formidable team, winning games even when facing tougher and more experienced opponents. They still have a full schedule of games left, on the Wednesday before the February recess.
However, the rest of the games, after the game on Friday the 13th, are all away games. These games are against teams that they have previously played at home. When asking freshman Antonio Bronner about any concern over the lack of home games for the rest of the season, he stated that, “playing on a ours is smaller than average, but even though our team is young, we know we can make the best out of it.”
The most recent game- an away game- was on Wednesday the 18th against KIPP. The boys showed that they would not give up easily and won with a score of 4-3.
Their last home game took place on Friday the 13th, with the Golden Eagles wrapping up with a 4-3 victory against Kings Academy. The Kings Academy had proven to be an adversary that did not let up easily, causing much frustration for the team since it had already been short four players that game. Senior and captain Luis Martino credits the win to the fact that, “every player had given a 110% when on last minute ended.”
The 2012 year started off packed, with the boys facing against Leadership Prep twice only to come back a week later with a win 2-1.
The team is looking forward to the rest of the season, hoping to sweep victory after victory as they play against their opponent. Although at a slight disadvantage of not being at Achiever- the Golden Eagle’s eyrie- they know better than to let that deter them from pursuing an impeccable record for rest of the season.
