Bianca Jones, a two year old baby from Detroit, Michigan, went missing on December 2, 2011. The current suspicion falls on her father, D’Andre Lane. Bianca was with her father when she disappeared. Lane claims that he was carjacked near his home in Detroit while driving to Bianca’s mother’s house to get clothing. The thief allegedly fled the scene with the little girl in the backseat. When the car was found ten minutes after Lane’s call to 911, the little girl was nowhere in sight.

A source close to the investigation told the Detroit Free Press that Bianca was in the car earlier that day and was covered with a blanket. Lane said that the baby was sleeping, and he did not want to wake her.

Since the questioning of his daughter’s disappearance, Lane has taken and failed a polygraph test conducted by local police. He blames the failure on stress due to the loss of his daughter. Cadaver dogs also showed a response to areas in Lane’s home and car. Although he claims he has nothing to do with her disappearance, police have put in a request for an arrest warrant. Whether it is or is not for Lane has not been revealed to the public.

Banika, Bianca’s mother, is devastated. “All I want is my baby home,” she says. Bella Jones, Bianca’s 7 year old sister, sang for Bianca in the prayer vigil held on Christmas Eve. Bianca’s disappearance  has taken a toll on family members, who say they do not know what to do or how to feel.  Kelly Jones says, “With every passing day, it’s getting harder and harder. But we’re leaning on each other for strength.”  Even though her disappearance is devastating, Banika Jones says, “I’m so glad and overwhelmed with the love and prayer. For the community to try to find my daughter, there is nothing I can say. There are no words for that.”

Wayne State University Professor  Peter Henning said, “Prosecutors could face an uphill without finding Bianca. Though the child is missing, that doesn't prove anyone harmed her, and building a murder is difficult.”  As weeks pass, the case becomes more challenging. “Time,” Henning says, “is the enemy of the police.”

There is still an Amber Alert out for Bianca and the case is not closed yet.
