Freshman Brian Gonzalez has been playing the same two soccer positions (midfielder and forward) since he began playing at the TSTC soccer field at age eleven. Gonzalez says that soccer is his favorite sport and also his getaway from life because since he’s playing a sport he loves, he forgets everything else while he’s on the field.

Joining football practices about two weeks before his first game, Gonzalez became the place kicker for the varsity football team in the Connally game, but he prefers to play soccer over football because it’s his favorite and best sport. He doesn’t care to play all positions--he only likes midfielder most of the time. If he had the chance to choose only one position for the rest of his life, it would be midfielder because he can score and assist there.

Gonzalez’s inspiration is a major league player named Neymar, who plays for Brazil because he claims that Neymar is a “Beast.” He plans to play soccer for some big college after high school. His expectations are to play for FC Dallas when he’s done playing college soccer.

Gonzalez’s stats in his football season were 24 out of 27 PAT’s (points after touchdown) for 89%. He also had a total of two field goal attempts but was unsuccessful with both. Since he was a kicker, the only thing he did at football practice was kick over and over again, every day. Besides being a kicker for the varsity football team, his athletic highlights include playing basketball in eighth grade and of course soccer since he was eleven.

He has one piece of advice for his fellow student-athletes, “If you play a sport, follow your dreams.”
