Odd Future
Wolf Gang Kill Them All, also known as Odd Future, is collective group of music
artists and producers from Los Angeles within the ages of 17-25.
The
leader of the group is Tyler Okonma a.k.a Tyler, The Creator, and other members
consists of: Earl Sweatshirt, Hodgy Beats, Left Brain, Domo The Genesis, Frank
Ocean, Mike G, Matt Martian, Syd tha Kyd, Jasper Dolphin, and Taco Bennett.
Within the group, there are sub-groups, consisting of MellowHype (Hodgy Beats and Left Brain), I
Smell Panties (Tyler, The Creator and Jasper Dolphin) The Jet Age of Tomorrow
(Matt Martians and Hal Williams), EarlWolf (Earl Sweatshirt and Tyler The
Creator) and The Internet (Syd tha Kyd and Matt Martians).
The
group started in 2007 and released a total of 10 studio albums, with more
albums on the way. Most of their albums were or are labeled Horrorcore, but
Tyler disclaim the genre, stating on his Twitter and Tumblr profile that “The
music is about our feelings, and people just have F**king selective hearing”.
Odd
Future has held concerts in Austin, Los Angeles and London. The shows in Austin
and London were there first of many outside of their home of L.A. Tyler stated
on his Twitter feed that “It’s weird that we got so many people going to our
shows now, even though none of those f**kers knew us then.”
Samantha
Ortiz,17,says she believes their music is weird and not attractive.
“I don’t like how they curse and
all that” said Ortiz. “It’s not ever rap, just yelling”
Divad
Robertson,15, says they are an alright group and have future for themselves.
“It’s not like they’re bad” said
Robertson. “Just epic and f**king wild”
One
of the group’s members, Thebe Kgositsile,18, a.k.a Earl Sweatshirt, was sent to
a Samoan boarding school. It is believed that His Mother sent him there because
of his self-titled album, Earl, released in 2010. It was stated on his Twitter
page that he is back home in Los Angeles and is ready to make more music, he
released a song via internet titled “Home”.
The group appeared on television
programs such as the “Jimmy Fallon Show” and “Regular Show”, and in March 2012 will
have their own television program titled “Loiter Squad”, which will consist of:
Tyler The Creator, Taco Bennett, Jasper Dolphin, and Lionel Boyce, and will be sponsored by “Dick
House”, the creators of many shows such as “Jackass”, “Rob and Big”, “Rob
Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory” and “Ridiculousness”.
