Pants: (pl. n) 1. An undergarment reaching from the waist to the thighs or knees. Leggings, although they may be thinner than khakis or jeans, are in fact pants.  Leggings cover the legs in the same way that skinny jeans or jeggings do. By definition, leggings are pants.
Leggings have been worn as pants by many celebrities including Pippa Middleton and Christina Aguilera. They can be worn with long sweaters and shirts paired with boots or flats. The possibilities go on.
Girls these days wear leggings and yoga pants for comfort and style, but let’s face it, most wear them to accentuate their curves. Although most guys aren’t complaining, many girls are. Some argue that leggings are too tight and show off too much to be considered pants. Others argue that leggings should only be worn by girls with specific body types. Others, who are indifferent, think, to each their own.
One drawback of wearing leggings as pants is that, due to the nature of their design, one is more prone to wardrobe malfunctions while wearing them, so caution should be taken. If leggings are see through, I suggest burning them and buying a new pair. There is also a clear difference between tights and leggings and confusing the two may be detrimental to one’s reputation and may put one at risk for extreme tormenting.
I am a firm supporter of leggings as pants, when worn appropriately, and I will continue wearing them despite others opinions.

PRO

Leggings were designed as an undergarment to adorn dresses or skirts, not as pants.  Leggings are innapropriot without something over top of them. They are so tight that you can see way more of a girl than you need to.
I would love to be able to walk down the hallway without my eyes being assaulted by girls in tight fitting leggings. They are not only tight, but borderline see through.
According to thefashionpolice.net “LEGGINGS ARE NOT PANTS.” The website has posted multiple articles saying that leggings in no way count as appropriate, or fashionable, outerwear.
Many designers, including Carson Kressley, have said similar things regarding leggings. Kressley was quoted on the Oprah show as saying, “You can wear a cute skirt over it. You can wear a dress over it and tall boots,” he says. “It’s a great way to lengthen the leg.”
But Carson has a word of warning. “You have to remember one thing with leggings—they’re not pants!” he says. “Generally, wear something over them, okay?”
Even a fashion designer, with such eccentric tastes as Kressley, believes leggings are crossing the line.
Many schools, including Rockville High School and Neil Armstrong Middle School have added a clause to their school handbooks that ban students from wearing leggings without something over them.
Wearing leggings as pants has also opened the door for some girls to go as far as wearing tights as pants. As if leggings weren’t bad enough, tights as pants are simply a desecration of fashionable legwear as a whole.
This is a school environment, it shouldn’t be too much to ask that girls simply cover up. The rest of us, in appropriate pants, don’t need to see girl’s thongs and butts hanging out. It’s just not right.
