Falcon students now have another opportunity to participate in a new community service club - Interact.
Interact is Rotary International’s community service club for high school students.
Rotary is a worldwide organization in 200 different countries, consisting of 1.2 million members who devote their time volunteering to improve the communities and the world.
Megan Sammons, a sophomore at Briar Woods High School, has become the official founding member of BWHS’s first Interact Club.
“We decided to start it here because my friend started up the Interact Club at Broad Run last year and it was a huge success,” said Sammons.
The Broad Run Interact Club hopes to join up with the newly founded Briar Woods Interact Club to greater benefit the Ashburn community.
Emily Ciullo, the club sponsor, has always been familiar with Rotary and been involved in Loudoun’s Community service such as Keep Loudoun Beautiful and concession stands for the schools, since her family moved here in 2001.
“Students are always coming up to me asking for hours for clubs, and college applications,” said Ciullo.
Ciullo hopes to see our students volunteering their time to greater improve the BWHS community.
“My goals are to reach out to as much of the student body as possible and to make a visible impact on our local community and the international community,” said Sammons.
Sammons said they plan to help the community through group and individual projects. They hope to join up with local elementary schools, food banks, and hospitals.
Sammons said, “We stand out from other clubs because we can be formed to fit exactly what we want and works best [for our school].”
